Optimism all ’round

Just saw this comment on the cbc.ca story about the City changing its bargaining position (whatever that may mean).

Go Larry Go – The city is behind you all the way (although you may not know it) and we support you and the city in not letting the OC transpo workers and their union enslave us to their demands. Spring is coming, commuting will be a bit easier, and we can keep them (the union sheep) on KD as long as necessary.

Eh? Spring is coming? In Ottawa? Isn’t it the 25th of January?

I think the poster is either the most optimistic soul in the NCR, or he or she has spent way too many hours in the -30 weather sans chapeau.

  1. I noticed that starting late last week, someone at the Citizen must have had to start driving their wife/kids somewhere in the mornings… the Citizen began calls for ending the strike.

I still think most people back the city, although spring coming?? definitely brain freeze.

    • Yeah – ’till recently the local media was all “don’t give in Larry! You’re in the right!”
They have changed their tune a wee bit… advertising and circulation revenues must be taking a hit.

  2. Wellll, we’ve survived most of December and January without transit, so it follows then that there’s no reason why we can’t also survive most of February and March without transit. And then after that it won’t be long until spring starts. I think most people have given up on the idea of the strike being settled anyway, so it’s all moot.

    • Agreed. The person in charge of the carpool I use to get to Tunney’s just won a lottery for a parking pass! You’d have thought it was a 649 win!
So, I’m good for a month and it’s cheaper than my EcoPass…

  3. Hey Trashee, yesterday someone calling themselves Mayor Larry commented on my blog. The comment is stupid enough to really be his and the link goes to a website called Mayor Larry’s blog. wordpress which posts all the exact articles posted on Mayor Larry’s blog.ca posts. I can’t figure out what’s going on, can you?

  4. Well, XUP, my keen sense of awareness senses that a certain bald guy with a chain of office named Larry has taken a shine to ya – kudos!
Now that you are “in” with His Worship, I fully expect this whole transit nonsense will end within hours… if not sooner.
Though I do really like Woodsy’s suggestion about oatmeal and scotch… ‘course, I like any comment involving scotch…
