Transit strike – no one is speaking for us!

S: (v) abandon, forsake, desolate, desert (leave someone who needs or counts on you; leave in the lurch) “The mother deserted her children”

As Sonny and Cher sang, the beat goes on at City Hall and in the offices of the ATU. Still no end in sight to the silliness.

The Feds have weighed in saying that they aren’t getting involved.

The City of Ottawa and the Amalgamated Transit Union are on their own when it comes to ending the transit strike, federal Labour Minister Rona Ambrose said Wednesday.

My Resident Love Goddess likes to point out that No One Is Speaking For Us. And she is absolutely correct.

It is SUPPOSED to be the job of our elected officials to look after the interests of their constituents insofar as City affairs are concerns. Stand up for those who put them into office – yup – that IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY!

So why have they abandoned it? Does layormarry have some sort of supernatural grip on the Council? Are they completely oblivious to the pain that is being caused by this strike? Are they really that stupid?

I, and many, many, many other bloggers, columnists, etc., have gone on and on about this ad nauseum. Still, nothing is being done, no one is speaking for the people of this City and the buses are still parked.

So, what to do? I really am out of ideas. Keeping writing your Councillors, call them, email them, stop by their offices… hassle them as much as possible within the limits of the law. And make it damned clear to them that they will pay dearly at the ballot box in the next municipal election!

  1. Except that they’re all on vacation at Whistler and they don’t read your emails even when you do send them. One blogger has suggested that we take away all cars from everyone involved in the transit strike negotiations. And they don’t get them back until the strike is over.

  2. What, no links to my ravings about the strike? 😉

    • hahahah! No offense, Ken… I link only to rants and not to raves 😉

  3. Rantings! Yes, that’s what I meant to say.
