Might they vote yes?

As we enter Day 27 of this mess of a transit strike, the rhetoric is picking up steam. This is not unexpected. But what amazes me is the City’s apparent lack of vision about what to do if the ATU turns down the latest offer (which I am becoming increasingly convinced that they will do!).

On CBC Ottawa this morning, our Dear Illustrious Mayor Larry repeatedly avoided answering a direct question posed by the host about the existence of a Plan B. Over and over, the Lar-ster said that the City has put a fair offer on the table, blah-blah-blah…

OK. But what if this drags on for many more weeks and months? What are you going to do Larry?

Speak up! I can’t hear you!

Meanwhile over at applyliberally, I found this cool cartoon…

  1. Unless….Larry is more devious than we think and he has a diabolically evil Plan B, but he doesn’t want to publicize it because it will make the unionistos crazy. On the other hand, what CAN he do? Back-to-work legislation has to be federal and that might have to wait until we have a federal government again. I’m just sick of the whole thing. If they vote no tomorrow, I’m turning in my EcoPass for good and buying a Segue

  2. I do think that mayorlarry is more devious than we think, but as you point out – what are the opions? There ain’t any!
My wife and I – both EcoPass owners – are also seriously considering our post-strike (circa 2011?) commuting options. If I can find a carpooling buddy who works at Tunney”s Pasture, there is a good chance I can score a cheap (under $50) parking pass. We may end up paying a bit more when gas and wear/tear is factored in… but we wouldn’t again be held hostage by a group of self-serving a**holes!

  3. Do not give in to the demands of OC Transpo members who make holding our city hostage an annual event. Ottawans are adjusting to life without the bus drivers. We need city council to act immediately regarding easing parking restrictions and opening the transit routes to ease congestion. If they do that, the drivers can sit out until hell freezes over because we won’t need them.
